Box Score The field hockey team opened their 2014 season with a trip to Slippery Rock on Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins trailed 1-0 at the half before tying the contest at one just over five minutes into the second half. The Rock was able to score a late goal to take home a 2-1 victory and improve to 3-0 on the season.
Slippery Rock took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the contest as they tipped in a shot off a cross. The Rock would continue to hold that lead throughout the first half and entered the halftime break with a 1-0 lead. The Griffins tied the game at one in the 42nd minute of the contest.
Kayla Chapman scored her first college goal when she tipped in a corner from
Molly Childress to even the score. The game remained 1-1 until there were less than 12 minutes to play in the contest and Slippery Rock scored on a deflection off a save of the original shot to give them a 2-1 lead.
Alexandra Piekarz was spectacular in cage making 13 saves in the loss.
The Griffins will return to action on Saturday when they host Mansfield at noon.
