Box Score

Seton Hill played its first third contest in the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Owls Field in West Lawn, PA on Saturday afternoon.  The Griffins battled the number one seed Millersville in the winners bracket final with both teams coming in with 2-0 records.  SHU advanced to its second consecutive NCAA Atlantic Regional Final with an 8-2 victory over the Marauders.  The Griffins improve to 39-15 on the season.
 
The Griffins scored a run in the top of the first inning.  Brendan Costantino led off with a single back thru the box on the first pitch of the game.  Costanino moved to second on a groundout and scored when the Marauders let a pop up hit by Cody Herald drop about 15 feet in front of the plate that gave SHU a 1-0 lead.   SHU added three more in the second.  The first run was all Garret Vrbanic.  He singled to lead off the inning, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch then scored on a groundout from Brandon Jossey.  After two outs, Taylor Schmidt singled.   Costantino then singled for the second time.  Anthony Fanelli was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Nick Sell then doubled in two runs to increase the lead to 4-0. 
 
SHU extended their lead to 5-0 on an RBI triple from Vrbanic that scored Chris Miller in the top of the third inning.  The Griffins were finally able to add on in the top of the eighth.  Fanelli led off with a single.  Sell then followed with a bunt base hit.  After a fly out, Chris Miller scored Fanelli with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.  Millersville trimmed the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the eighth.  Griffin closer Jesse Cooper was able to get a flyout to get out of a bases loaded jam.  SHU added two more runs in the top of the ninth.  Vrbanic led off with a single up the middle.  He moved to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored when Schmidt singled.  Schmidt then scored on another throwing error to increase the lead to 8-1.  The Marauders got one run in the ninth but Cooper closed out the contest to send the Griffins to the finals.
 
Jordan Fuller earned his fifth win of the season.  He went 7 2/3 innings, giving up just 1 run on 6 hits.  Fuller struck out 4 hitters.  Jesse Cooper earned his 16^th save of the season with 1 2/3 innings of relief.  The Griffin offense was led by Brendan Costantino who went 4-5 with two runs scored.  Garret Vrbanic added 3 hits.  Nick Sell, Cody Herald, Chris Miller and Taylor Schmidt each had two hits. 
 
Seton Hill advances in the NCAA Regional and will meet Millersville in the regional final.  Millersville will need to beat the Griffins twice to earn the regional title.  First pitch is set for 12 PM on Sunday afternoon.
