Griffins Win Wild One Over Point Park

The Griffin baseball team jumoed out to a 12-0 lead over Point Park on Tuesday afternoon but had to then hold on for a 13-12 victory.  With the win, the Griffins improve to 25-9 overall and run their winning streak to fourteen games.

Cody Herald gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the first.  The Griffins then added five runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Chris Miller hit a three run homer and Nick Sell followed that up with a two run homer to give the Griffins a 5-0 lead.  Brandon Jossey singled in Taylor Schmidt in the fourth and Jossey then scored on an error as the lead jumped to 8-0 after four innings.  Seton Hill then scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase the lead to 11-0.  Jossey, Herald and Miller all picked up RBI's in the inning.  An unearned run gave SHU a 12-0 lead after six innings.  Point Park got one run back in the seventh on a solo homer.  They then put a seven spot on the board in the top of the eighth to cut SHU's lead to 12-8.  Sell then doubled in the bottom of the eighth, stole second then scored the game winning run on a wild pitch.  Point Park was able to cut the lead to 13-12 and had a runner on first base with two outs when Coach Marizzaldi called on closer Jesse Cooper.  Cooper was able to earn his 11th save in a wild fashion.  The Point Park runner was called out while trying to steal because of batter interference which ended the contest.

Justin Zeitler threw a scoreless third inning to earn his first collegiate win.  Brandon Jossey and Chris Miller each had three hits.  Nick Sell, Garret Vrbanic and Jesse Cooper each had two hits.

The Griffins will host Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday in another single nine inning contest.
