Griffins Sweep Doubleheader from Clarion

Seton Hill hosted Clarion in a PSAC West doubleheader on a cloudy and cool Saturday afternoon.  The Griffins scored 7 runs in the fourth inning of game one and cruised to a 10-3 victory.  The Griffins ran their winning streak to eleven games with a 9-2 victory in game two.   SHU is now 22-9 overall and 11-1 in PSAC West play. 
 
Brendan Costantino reached on an error to lead off the game and then stole second and third base.  He then scored on a passed ball to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Clarion tied the score at one with a run in the top of the third.  The Griffins took the lead in the fourth.  Costantino drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.  Jesse Cooper then singled in a run.  Garret Vrbanic then scored on a throwing error.  Cody Herald then made it 5-1 with an RBI single.  Chris Miller added another run with an RBI double.  Taylor Schmidt then drove in two to increase the lead to 8-1.  Clarion cut the lead to 8-3 with two unearned runs in the top of the fifth.  Vrbanic drove in a run in the sixth to increase the lead to 9-3.
 
Alex Haines earned his fifth win of the season.  He went 5 1/3 innings.  Taylor Schmidt had 3 hits.  Chris Miller and Matt Malacane each had 2 hits. 
 
SHU wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard in game two.  Taylor Schmidt walked with one out and then stole second base.  He scored on a single by Cody Herald.  Clarion tied the score at one with a run in the top of the second inning.  Brandon Jossey gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead with a solo homer in the third.  The Griffins added two more unearned runs to push the lead to 4-1.  Clarion picked up an unearned run in the top of the fourth.  Nick Sell hit a grand slam to left field to increase the lead to 9-2 in the fifth.  
 
Mike Bittel earned the win, going five innings.  Taylor Schmidt, Nick Sell and Brandon Jossey each had two hits.
 
The Griffins will close out the four game set when they host Clarion on Sunday.  The doubleheader will begin at 11 AM.
