Griffins Earn PSAC Western Division Title with Sweep of Cal

Seton Hill made the trip to Consol Energy Park looking for one win to claim its first ever PSAC Western Division title.  The Griffins were able to do that and claim their first ever PSAC West title with a convincing 12-0 victory in game two.  SHU completed the sweep with a 5-3 win in game two.  SHU is now 36-14 overall and 22-6 in PSAC West play.
 
The Griffins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one.  After one out, Anthony Fanelli tripled.  Fanelli scored when Cody Herald reached on an error.  Nick Sell followed with an RBI double.  Brandon Jossey closed out the scoring with a RBI single.  Brendan Costantino's sacrifice fly increased the Griffins lead to 4-0 in the fourth.  SHU added two more runs in the fifth inning.  Jossey executed a squeeze play gave SHU the 5-0 lead in the fifth.  Matt Malacane increased the lead to 6-0 with an RBI single.  The Griffins put the game away with 4 more runs in the sixth.  Fanelli drove in the first run of the inning with a double.  Chris Miller then drove in two runs with a single.  Malacane closed out the scoring in the sixth with an RBI single.  SHU closed out the scoring with two runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Brett Sullivan earned his seventh win of the season.  He went 5 innings, gave up 5 hits and struck out one.  Anthony Fanelli and Matt Malacane each had 3 hits for the Griffins.  Brendan Costantino, Nick Sell, Cody Herald and Brandon Jossey each had two hits.
 
Brendan Costantino led off game two in style by hitting a leadoff homer to give SHU the quick 1-0 lead.  California answered with runs in each of their first two at bats to take a 2-1 lead.  SHU retook the lead in the top of the third.  After an out, Brandon Jossey, Cody Herald and Nick Sell each singled to load the bases.  Chris Miller then singled in two runs to give SHU the 3-2 lead.  Matt Malacane then drove in Sell to increase the lead to 4-2.  Cal used a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to one at 4-3.  Sell then tripled in Herald, who singled in the fifth to increase the lead back to 5-3.
 
Cody Herald and Nick Sell each had two hits.  Logan Urtz earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.  Justin Zeitler earned the save with two scoreless innings of relief.
 
Seton Hill will battle the number four seed from the east Kutztown in the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM in Butler, PA.
