Offensive Explosion Leads to Win at Alderson Broaddus

The Griffins took a break from PSAC action on Monday afternoon when they make the trip to Philippi, WV to batlle former WVIAC foe Alderson Broaddus in a single nine inning contest.  The Griffin offense exploded in the middle innings and the team cruised to an 18-6 victory.  SHU improves to 32-14 overall.

Alderson Broaddus took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  AB held the lead until the top of the fourth inning.  Thats when the Griffin offense began to explode as they scored 17 runs over the next four innings.  Taylor Schmidt and Brendan Costantino each drove in runs in a 6 run fourth innings.  The other Grififn runs that inning scored on errors and a wild pitch.  AB scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to trim the lead to 6-5.  Anthony Fanelli, Chris Miller and Nick Sell each had RBI's in the top of the fifth as the Griffins scored 4 times to increase their lead to 10-5.  Matt Malacane and Fanelli then each drove in a run in the top of the sixth as the Griffins put a three spot on the board in the top of the sixth to make the score 13-5.  AB scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Malacane then had an RBI single and Costantino singled in two more runs to push the lead to 17-6 after seven innings.  Fanelli closed out the scoring with an RBI groundout in the top of the ninth. 

Matt Ober threw a scoreless inning of relief to earn his first collegiate victory.  Brendan Costantino led the offense going 4-6 with 3 RBI.  Anthony Fanelli, Jesse Cooper and Matt Malacane each added 3 hits.  Fanelli also drove in three runs.  Chris Miller and Nick Sell each had 2 hits. 

Seton Hill will close out the regular season with a four game set with California (PA).  SHU will travel to Cal for a doubleheader on Friday and return home for senior day on Saturday.
