Griffins and Mercyhurst Split Weekend Series

Seton Hill hosted Mercyhurst in a key PSAC West doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to close out their four game set.   Seton Hill won game one by the score of 8-3.  Mercyhurst split the doubleheader with a 14-2 win in game two.  SHU is now 31-14 overall and 18-6 in PSAC West play.
 
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second without a hit.  Matt Malacane was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  He moved to third on two ground outs then scored when Taylor Schmidt reached on an error.  Mercyhurst tied the score in the top of the third without getting a ball out of the infield.  Three bunts and an error gave the Lakers their first run.  SHU answered right back in the bottom of the inning.  Cody Herald led off with a double.  Chris Miller followed with a single.  Nick Sell was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Malacane then knocked in a run with a groundout.  Brandon Jossey increased the lead to 4-1 with a single to center, knocking the Laker starter out of the contest.  SHU added four more in the fourth.  Herald singled in a run and Sell hit a three run bomb to push the advantage to 8-1.  Mercyhurst got one run back in the top of the sixth.   
 
Brad Schnelle earned his fifth win of the season with a complete game.  He struck out 4and walked none.  Cody Herald had three hits.  Anthony Fanelli and Brandon Jossey each had two. 
 
Mercyhurst jumped all over Griffin starter Brett Sullivan in game two, scoring four runs on four hits in the top of the second including an inside the park two run homer.  The Lakers scored three more runs in the top of the third to chase Sullivan after giving up 7 runs in 2 1/3innings.  Mercyhurst added 5 more runs in the fourth to make the score 13-0.  SHU got an RBI groundout from Matt Malacane to trim the lead to 13-1.  Anthony Fanelli doubled in Brendan Costantino in the sixth to cut the Laker lead to 14-2. 
 
Seton Hill will travel to Alderson Broaddus on Monday.
