Box Score 2 Seton Hill traveled to Erie, PA on Wednesday afternoon for a PSAC West doubleheader against Gannon. The Knights took advantage of four unearned first inning runs for a 6-3 victory in game one. The Griffins could not hold leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in game two and Gannon walked off the Griffins 3-2 in game two. SHU is now 29-12 overall and 16-4 in PSAC West play.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard in game one, scoring a run after two outs in the first inning.
Cody Herald walked and stole second base. He moved to third on a single from
Chris Miller and scored when
Anthony Fanelli singled. Gannon came right back with four unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to two throwing errors from the Griffin infield.
Brandon Jossey walked to lead off the top of the second. After a strikeout,
Taylor Schmidt followed with a bunt basehit.
Brendan Costantino singled to load the bases.
Jesse Cooper then drove in Jossey with an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 4-2. After one out in the fifth, Herald tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Miller to trim the lead to 4-3. Gannon put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Game two was a pitcher's dual with neither team being able to score until the top of the fifth inning.
Nick Sell led off the top of the fifth with a double. After a popout, he stole third and scored on a single from
Matt Malacane. Gannon tied the score at one with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Seton Hill retook the lead in the top of the seventh.
Chris Miller led off with a bunt single.
Dan Abbenante pinch ran for him at first. Sell then reached on an error. After
Brandon Jossey moved up both runners with a bunt, Malacane was walked to load the bases.
Garret Vrbanic then drew a 3-2 walk to force in a run and give SHU the 2-1 lead. The Griffins turned to closer
Jesse Cooper in the seventh. Cooper was able to get the first two outs before hitting a batter. An infield single and a wild pitch put runners on second and third. The Knights then walked off the Griffins with a single up the middle as Cooper blew his first save of the season. Sell was the lone Griffin with two hits.
Seton Hill will travel to Mercyhurst on Friday before hosting the Lakers on Saturday in a four game PSAC West set. SHU will enter the four game set with a 16-4 mark in PSAC West play. Mercyhurst is in second place with a 12-6 record with a doubleheader at IUP on Thursday.
