Box Score 2 On Saturday afternoon the Griffins traveled to Slippery Rock, PA for a PSAC West doubleheader against the Rock. The Griffins were able to win game one by the score of 4-1. SHU completed the sweep with an 11-8 win in game two. SHU has now won 17 in a row and improves to 28-9 overall and 15-1 in PSAC West play.
The Griffins were able to pick up two runs on no hits in the top of the first inning of game one to take a quick lead.
Anthony Fanelli and
Chris Miller were both hit by pitches and scored when
Nick Sell reached on an error. SHU made it 3-0 in the second when
Brendan Costantino singled in
Jesse Cooper. The Griffins increased the lead to 4-0 in the fourth. Sell singled to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from Cooper. The Rock scored a run in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate but Cooper came on to get the final out of the game.
Mike Bittel went 6 2/3 innings to earn his fifth win of the season. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He struck out three and walked two.
Jesse Cooper earned his 12
th save of the season by getting the final out of the contest.
Brendan Costantino and
Nick Sell each had two hits in the win.
SHU again jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game two.
Brendan Costantino and
Cody Herald each walked and scored on a single from
Chris Miller. SRU then scored two runs off Griffin starter
Alex Haines in the bottom of the first to tie the score. SHU then put a 6 spot on the scoreboard in the top of the second. Herald drew a bases loaded walk to open the scoring.
Nick Sell then followed with an RBI single. Miller then drew a bases loaded walk to increase the lead to 5-2.
Brandon Jossey was then hit by a pitch and
Jesse Cooper drew another bases loaded walk to push the lead to 7-2. Miller then scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 8-2. The Rock then scored four in the second and one in the third to trim the lead to 8-7 after three innings.
SHU then got three runs in the top of the fourth. After one out,
Taylor Schmidt singled. He then stole second. Costantino then walk and Schmidt scored on an error after he stole third base.
Anthony Fanelli then doubled off the wall to score Costantino. Herald then singled in Fanelli to increase the lead back to four at 11-7.
Jordan Fuller earned the win in relief.
Jesse Cooper earned his second save of the day.
Cody Herald led the Griffin offense going 3-3.

Jesse Cooper each had two hits.
Seton Hill will close out the four game set with Slippery Rock at home on Sunday with the first pitch set for 1 PM.
