Greensburg, PA- The Seton Hill Griffin Baseball team swept the IUP Crimson Hawks on Monday in a PSAC West doubleheader. SHU took game one 2-1 and cruised through game two winning 12-4. The Griffins improve their record to 18-9 and 7-1 in PSAC West play.
In game one
Chris Miller crushed a homer to left field in the third inning to start the scoring for the Griffins. IUP's Rick Jones scored a run off a sacrifice fly out in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1. Later in the bottom of the fifth
Brendan Costantino singled to center field and
Matt Malacane scored the game winning run as SHU won game one, 2-1.
Alex Haines earned his fourth win (4-2) and
Jesse Cooper earned his eighth save of the season.
Game two IUP took the first lead of the game scoring a run in the top of the second off an error. Then Seton Hill opens up the floodgates, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the second.
Brandon Jossey scored on a
Garret Vrbanic hit to left field.
Cody Herald homered to left field and
Dan Abbenante and
Matt Malacane scored off another Vrbanic hit. Vrbanic also scored a run in the fourth off a full count basehit by Costantino. The scored headed into the fifth reading 10-1 Griffins. IUP tallied a run in the fifth.
Brad Schnelle earned his third win of the season (3-1).
SHU Baseball will return to action tomorrow Tuesday, April 1 for a doubleheader against Gannon University (6-16, 2-6 PSAC). Game times are at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
