Baseball Closes Spring Trip with 12-5 Loss to Ohio Dominican

The Griffin baseball team closed out its spring trip with a matchup with GLIAC foe Ohio Dominican in Winter Haven, FL.  Ohio Dominican scored 8 runs over the final four innings for a 12-5 victory.  SHU closes the spring trip with a 9-8 record. 

Ohio Dominican jumped on Griffin starter Brett Sullivan for 4 runs in their first two at bats.  The Griffins got two runs in their half of the second.  After one out, Anthony Fanelli, Taylor Schmidt and Matt Malacane each singled to load the bases.  Fanelli and Schmidt scored when Zac Heide reached on an error.  Garret Vrbanic's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth cut the Ohio Dominican lead to 4-3.  SHU tied the score in the fifth.  Brandon Jossey doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cody HeraldNick Sell then scored Jossey with a sacrifice fly.  ODU retook the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth.  They added two more in the seventh to increase the lead to 8-4.  Fanelli cut the lead to 8-5 with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.  ODU put the game away with four runs in the ninth.

Brett Sullivan suffered his second loss of the season.  Anthony Fanelli led the Griffin offense with 3 hits.  Cody Herald, Taylor Schmidt and Garret Vrbanic each added two hits. 

Seton Hill will return to the field when they host West Liberty in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
