Seton Hill continued its spring trip with a doubleheader against Northwood (MI) at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, FL. The Griffins had to go extra innings to take a 7-6 victory in game one. Northwood scored 5 runs in their final two at bats in game two for a 6-3 win. SHU is now 8-6 on the season.
Brandan Costantino singled to open the game. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Taylor Schmidt. Costantino then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Nick Sell. Northwood answered with a four spot in their half of the first to take a 4-1 lead. The Griffins took the lead in the fourth thanks to four unearned runs.
Brett Sullivan singled in the first run with
Anthony Fanelli scoring on an error. Costantino then drove in the last two runs of the contest with a single to give the Griffins a 5-4 lead. Northwood tied the score at five with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
After two outs in the sixth, Sullivan connected for his third hit of the game and scored when
Jesse Cooper doubled to the right center field gap to give the Griffins a 6-5 lead. Northwood tied the score at six with a run in the sixth. After one out in the eighth,
Brandon Jossey doubled and scored when Fanelli singled back thru the box to give the Griffins a 7-6 lead.
Kevin Neumann earned the win in game one, throwing a scoreless seventh.
Jesse Cooper earned the save with a scoreless eighth.
Brett Sullivan had three hits for the Griffins.
Brendan Costantino and Cooper each had two.
Northwood took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second. The Griffins were able to tie the score at one in the third when they had four straight hits to open the inning.
Taylor Schmidt led off with a single. He moved to third on a single by
Jesse Cooper.
Brendan Costantino then singled in Schmidt to tie the score. Seton Hill took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Brandon Jossey singled in a run and Costantino scored on an error by Northwood. Northwood scored three runs after two outs in the top of the sixth using two Griffin errors and a wild pitch to take a 4-3 lead. Northwood added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.
Taylor Schmidt led the Griffins with 3 hits.
Brandon Jossey and
Cody Herald each had two hits.
Seton Hill will play Wayne State in a doubleheader on Friday.
