Griffins Season Ends with 74-59 Loss at Cal PA

Seton Hill opened up PSAC Tournament play with their first ever PSAC playoff game at California PA on Saturday evening.  The Griffins, the 6th seed battled the 3rd seed Vulcans in the first round of the PSAC playoffs.  Seton Hill was able to battle throughout the contest but came up short as they fell by the score of 74-59.  SHU sees their season come to an end at 13-14. 
 
The teams were even for the first few minutes with the score tied at seven.  Cal then went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 lead at the 15 minute mark of the half.  Mallory Sanner ended the run with a three pointer and followed that up with a layup to trim the lead to 13-12 with 12:55 to play.  Tiara Stossel hit one of two free throws to tie the score at 13.  Five straight points from Kelly Brennan gave SHU an 18-15 lead with 10 minutes to play in the half.  Cal then went on an 11-4 run to take a 26-22 lead at the under 8 media timeout.  The Vulcans then continued their run to extend their lead to 35-26 at the 3:06 mark of the first half.  Brennan's three point play with less than a second to play cut the Vulcans lead to 43-36 at the break. 
 
Cal opened the second half scoring the first four points of the half, forcing a SHU timeout at the 17:07 mark of the second half.  A basket from Katie Gattuso and a steal and layin from Mallory Sanner cut the lead to 47-40 at the 15:15 mark of the half.  Another basket from Sanner along with a layin from Paige Alviani and two free throws from Gattuso cut the Vulcan lead to 49-46 at the 12:33 mark.  Cal was able to extend their lead to 57-50 at the under 8 media timeout.  The Griffins then went cold from the field and Cal pushed the lead to 62-50 with 4:40 to play. 
 
Kelly Brennan led the Griffins with 14 points.  Katie Gattuso added 12 points.  Mallory Sanner, Tiara Stossel and Paige Alviani each finished their careers with 9 points.
