Seton Hill closed out their regular season with a home contest against California (PA) on Wednesday evening. The Griffins led 33-12 with 30 seconds to play in the first half but were outscored 50-25 the rest of the contest and dropped a 62-58 decision to the Vulcans. SHU falls to 15-11 overall and 7-9 in PSAC West play. The Griffins have clinched the fifth seed in the PSAC playoffs and will travel to Slippery Rock for the first round on Saturday.
Seton Hill came out of the gate strong and took a 15-5 lead after
Nate Perry's three pointer ten minutes into the first half. Another three pointer from Perry and four free throws from
Noah Davis extended the lead to 22-5 with 6:48 to play in the half.
Kameron Taylor's free throw gave the Griffins their largest lead of the half at 33-12 with 23 seconds to play. California got a basket late in the first half and hit a three pointer at the buzzer to trim the lead to 33-17 at the half.
Malachi Leonard hit a jumper at the 14:02 mark to give SHU a 37-27 lead. The Vulcans then went on a 9-0 run to trim the lead to 37-36 with 12:01 to play.
Kameron Taylor ended the run with a three pointer to make the score 40-36 with 11:45 to play. Another bucket from Taylor gave SHU a 46-43 lead at the 9:29 mark of the half. Cal ran off 5 straight to take a 48-46 lead with 8:22 to play. SHU responded with a 7-0 run to take a 53-48 lead with 5:52 left. Cal came right back with a 9-0 run to take a 57-53 lead with 2:47 left.
Max Kenyi hit a three pointer and two free throws from
David Windsor gave SHU a 58-57 lead with 2:04 left but that was the last basket the Griffins would score in the contest.
Nate Perry led the Griffins with 13 points.
Oliver McGlade and
Kameron Taylor each added 10 points.
