Box Score

The Griffin baseball team closed out its opening series of the season at Barton on Sunday afternoon with a nine inning contest.  Four Griffin pitchers combined to shutout Barton by the score of 6-0.  SHU improves to 2-1 on the season. 

Seton Hill scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead.  Taylor Schmidt singled after one out and stole second base.  He then scored on a throwing error.  Cody Herald drove in the other run in the inning with an RBI single.  Schmidt doubled in Zach Heide in the second inning to give SHU a 3-0 lead.  Brendan Costantino singled in a run in the fourth to push the advantage to 4-0.  Heide made it 5-0 with a sac fly in the fifth.  Schmidt drove in his second run of the game with an RBI single in the sixth to close out the scoring. 

Brett Sullivan earned the win, going 6 1/3 innings, giving up 6 hits while striking out four.  Taylor Schmidt led the Griffin offense with 3 hits.  Josh Forbes and Jesse Cooper also added 2 hits.

The Griffins will return to action next weekend when they travel to Limestone.
