Box Score Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to the Sports Center in Johnstown to take on Pitt Johnstown. The Griffins held a 52-49 lead early in the second half but UPJ pulled away for a 78-67 victory. SHU falls to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in PSAC play.
Pitt Johnstown took an early 9-6 lead in the contest before
Jenna Kaufman hit a three pointer to tie the score at 9 at the 13:15 mark of the half. UPJ then went on a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to force a Griffin timeout trailing 15-9 with 11:09 to play in the half. UPJ built the lead to 17-9 before baskets from
Kelly Brennan and
Jharrin Gill trimmed the lead to 17-13 with 9:13 to play. UPJ hit a three before the Griffins forced two turnovers that led to baskets from
Chelsea Apke and
Meghan Mastroianni to cut the lead to 20-17 with just under 8 minutes to play. The Mountain Cats extended the lead to 28-21 before the Griffins answered with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 29-28 lead, the last four on four free throws from
Lindsey Mifsud. UPJ outscored the Griffins 7-3 to take a 35-32 halftime lead.
UPJ built their lead to 44-38 before back to back buckets from
Kelly Brennan trimmed the lead 44-43 at the under 16 media timeout. Brennan continued her hot shooting as she scored 10 straight points for the Griffins. Back to back layups from
Jenna Kaufman gave SHU a 52-49 lead with 12 minutes to play in the second half. UPJ then went on a 9-0 run to take a 58-52 lead and force a Griffin timeout. The Mountain Cats continued to hold onto an 8 point lead, 61-53 at the under 8 media timeout. UPJ pushed its lead to 9 at the under 4 media timeout. UPJ was able to put the game away at the free throw line.
Chelsea Apke led the Griffins with 14 points.
Kelly Brennan added 12 points.
Meghan Mastroianni finished with 11.
Seton Hill will take a week off for finals before returning to the court for PSAC crossover action against Kutztown on December 16
th.
