The Griffin track and field teams opened their indoor season at the Youngstown State Icebreaker and had a very successful start to the season. The women's team hit 18 PSAC indoor championship qualifying marks and 1 new SHU indoor record. The men's team hit 8 PSAC indoor qualifying marks, 1 SHU record and 1 NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Terry Jackson led the way for the men's team, hitting a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing third with a time of 8.27.
Algeron Johnson also hit a PSAC qualifier in the 60 hurdles, finishing 8th with a time of 8.66. Delorian Day hit a PSAC qualifying mark as well with a time of 8.74. Day also hit a PSAC mark in the long jump and finished second (6.73m).
Nick Latty hit a PSAC mark and was fifth in the high jump (1.90m).
Jon Capps also hit a PSAC mark (1.85m). Derek DiAngelis set a new SHU indoor record with a 4th place finish in the pole vault (4.40m).
Alesha Herman broke the SHU indoor record in the 200 meter dash, finishing eighth in a time of 26.06. Herman also hit a PSAC mark in the 60 meter dash with another 8th place finish (8.06).
Jade Woodridge also hit a PSAC mark in the 60 meter dash and was 7th overall (7.95).
Jenna Bracken was 9th in the 60 meter hurdles and set a PSAC mark (9.30).
Angela McCowin (9.49),
Nicole Malara (9.74) and Lauren Nevling (9.86) also hit PSAC marks in the 60 m hurdles. McCowin hit a PSAC mark in the high jump as well, finishing fifth (1.55m).
Nichelle McMillan set two PSAC marks in the long and triple jump. She was second in the triple (11.29m) and fifth in the long (5.28m).
Alexis Hawkins was ninth in the long jump (5.19m) and Malara was tenth (5.15m). Both hit PSAC marks. Bracken also hit a PSAC mark in the triple jump (10.47m).
Martina Milcic and Vicki Miller both hit PSAC marks in the shot put and weight throw. Milcic was fourth in the weight (14.75m) and eighth in the shot put (11.77m). Miller was fifth in the weight (14.74m) and ninth in the shot (11.62m).
The Griffins will take a break and return to action on January 17th at the Al Hall Freedom Games at Edinboro University.
