The Seton Hill men continued their road trip at Slippery Rock University on Wednesday evening for a PSAC West matchup. The Griffins battled but fell by a 72-71 score. SHU falls to 11-6 overall and 3-4 in PSAC West play.
The Rock came out of the gate and took a quick 5-0 lead. SHU was able to battle back and take a 14-13 lead on a three pointer from
Max Kenyi. SRU answered with a 5-0 run forcing a SHU timeout at the 12:34 mark of the house.
Malachi Leonard hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 25-21. After a SRU technical, Kenyi hit both free throws and followed that with a three to give SHU a 26-25 lead at the 8:20 mark. The Rock was able to take a 35-33 lead at under four media timeout. Kenyi answered with a three of his own to give SHU a one point lead. Slippery Rock took a 41-38 halftime lead. Kenyi and
Kameron Taylor each had 13 points.
SRU came out of the locker room and went on an 8-3 run to take a 49-41 lead at the under 16 media timeout. A three pointer from
David Windsor and a lay in from
Malachi Leonard cut the lead to 54-49 at the 12:19 mark of the second half. SRU extended its lead to 62-52 at the 8:40 mark. Back to back buckets from
Kameron Taylor cut the lead to 64-60 with 5:40 to play. Taylor tied the score at 64 with a steal and a layin with just over four minutes to play. Taylor continued his hot play and gave the Griffins a 68-67 lead with 3:15 to play. He has scored 10 of the last 12 Griffin points. SRU took a 70-68 lead on a basket with 55 seconds to play. Windsor was then fouled and hit all three free throws to give SHU a 71-70 lead with 42 seconds to play. SRU then was fouled and hit both free throws with 25 seconds to go to take a 72-71 lead with 25 seconds to play. Two SHU shots came up short at the end.
Kameron Taylor led the Griffins with 29 points.
Max Kenyi finished with 13 points.
David Windsor and
Malachi Leonard both ended the game with 12.
Seton Hill will travel to California (PA) for another PSAC West battle on Saturday afternoon.
