The Griffin men returned to PSAC West play with a matchup against Pitt Johnstown at home on Wednesday. Seton Hill was able to rally late for a 83-80 victory. With the victory, the Griffins improve to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in PSAC West play.
The first five minutes of the contest were tightly played with neither team holding more than a three point advantage.
Oliver McGlade hit a three pointer with just under fifteen minutes remaining to give the Griffins a 15-11 lead. That basket keyed a 14-3 run that gave the Griffins a 26-14 advantage with 10:25 left in the first half. The Griffins were able to hold that advantage until the end of the first half. After two
Max Kenyi free throws, the Griffins led 39-29 with 3:15 to play. UPJ then ran off 12 straight points to take a 41-39 lead late in the first half. Kenyi hit a three with 21 seconds to go in the half that gave the Griffins a 42-41 halftime lead.
The Mountain Cats began to take control of the contest following the under 16 minute timeout. UPJ was able to build their lead to 69-62 with just under ten minutes to play in the half. Back to back field goals from
Nebojsa Stanojevic trimmed the lead to 69-66 with 8:45 to play. Two UPJ free throws pushed the lead back to seven at 75-68 with 6:48 to play. SHU responded with a 9-0 run to take a 77-75 lead on a lay in from
David Windsor with 3:38 to play.
Malachi Leonard gave SHU the two point lead back after two UPJ free throws at 79-77 with 1:58 left. UPJ answered with a three pointer to take a one point lead.
Max Kenyi finished a three point play with 44 seconds to go to give the Griffins a 82-80 lead. Stanojevic hit one of two free throws and a last second shot from UPJ came up short.
Max Kenyi led the Griffins with 17 points.
Oliver McGlade followed with 16 points.
Malachi Leonard added 15 points and
Nate Perry was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 10 points. The Griffins finished the game shooting 54% from the field and 53% from three point land.
Seton Hill will travel to Clarion on Saturday evening for another PSAC West contest.
