The Griffin field hockey team hit the road for the first time this season on Tuesday evening and the trip was a successful one. SHU made the short trip to Indiana, PA to battle the Crimson Hawks and were able to knock off #6 IUP by the score of 3-0. Seton Hill improves to 1-2 on the season.
The first half got off to a slow start with not much offense coming from either team. SHU registered 4 shots in the first half compared to 3 for the Crimson Hawks. The Griffins were able to get on the scoreboard late in the first half when they were awarded a penalty stroke.
Lauren Mariano drilled home the stroke to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead just 59 seconds before the half.
Ashley Reid increased the lead to 2-0 just over 4 minutes into the second half. Reid scored from the left side off a corner.
Melayna Currie assisted on the goal.
Alisha Bell closed out the scoring in the 51st minute on a scramble in front of the net.
Natasha Nichols assisted on the Bell goal.
Autumn Reid recorded 5 saves in net to earn her first shutout of the season.
Seton Hill will look to make it two in a row when they host Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
