Seton Hill looked to remain alive in the WVIAC Tournament and get a little revenge on Charleston in an elimination contest on Friday morning at the Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV. The Griffins avoided elimination and got the revenge they were looking for with a 13-2 victory. SHU is now 39-14 overall.
The Griffins jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first. After an out
Pat McCarthy doubled. He scored on a single by
Nick Sell.
Mike Cima was then hit by a pitch. After another out,
Josh Forbes singled in Cima and then Forbes and Herald executed a double steal to give SHU the 3-0 lead.
Brad Comport led off the second with a walk.
Brendan Costantino singled and McCarthy was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sell then delivered a sac fly and Costantino scored on an error to give SHU a 5-0 lead in the second.
Jackson Boyd led off the third with a single. He eventually scored to increase the Griffin lead to 6-0. Cima doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on a Boyd RBI hit to increase the lead to 7. Cima made the score 9-0 with a two run jack in the top of the fifth. Costantino made it 11-0 with a two RBI single in the sixth. Charleston scored two in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 11-2.
Nick Sell got one of those runs back in the top of the seventh with a leadoff bomb.
Josh Forbes got the other run back with a RBI single to push the lead to 13-2.
Brett Sullivan earned the win. He went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 4.
Jackson Boyd led the SHU offense with 4 hits.

The Griffins will now face WV State at 3:30 PM on Friday afternoon.
