Seton Hill returned to WVIAC Tournament play early Thursday morning in an elimination game as they battled West Liberty at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV.
Alex Haines was dominant on the mound as the Griffins stayed alive in the WVIAC Tournament with an 8-1 victory over West Liberty. Seton Hill improves to 38-14.
Brad Comport led off the top of the third with a walk.
Ryan Hayden followed with a single to enter. After a strikeout,
Pat McCarthy singled in Comport to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. After one out in the fourth,
Cody Herald and
Josh Forbes singled to put runners on first and third. Herald and Forbes then executed a double steal to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. In the Griffins fifth,
Brendan Costantino singled after one out. He stole second and scored on a two out RBI single by
Mike Cima that gave the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
Seton Hill continued to add on in the sixth. Forbes and
Jackson Boyd were hit by pitches to lead off the inning. A sac bunt by Comport moved the runners up to second and third. Costantino singled in two with two outs and McCarthy followed with a two run shot to left that increased the Griffins lead to 7-0. West Liberty got their first hit off of Griffin starter
Alex Haines with two outs in the sixth.
The Griffins added another run in the seventh on a solo homer by Cima. West Liberty got that run back in the bottom of the seventh.
Alex Haines earned the win on the mound. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 13.

The Griffins will battle the loser of this afternoon's Charleston – Concord contest at 9:30 am tomorrow morning.
