The Griffins travelled down Interstate 70 to Washington, PA to battle the Vulcans from California (PA) in a key Atlantic Region contest. California walked off the Griffins with 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 victory. Seton Hill falls to 25-8 overall.
The game was scoreless thru the first three innings with neither team able to put many runners on base. The Griffins were finally able to crack the scoreboard in the fourth inning. After one out,
Pat McCarthy reached on an error.
Nick Sell and
Jackson Boyd each singled to load the bases.
Mike Cima then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score McCarthy and give the Griffins the 1-0 lead.
Cody Herald followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.
California threatened in their half of the fifth, putting two runners on with one out but a double play ended the Vulcan threat. California was finally able to crack the scoreboard in the sixth when they scored a run and cut the lead to 2-1.
The Griffins had a chance to add on in the ninth with runners on second and third and no one out but they failed to score a run and it came back to haunt them. California used three singles and a Griffin error to walk off the Griffins.
Jackson Boyd had 3 of the Griffin 6 hits.
Cody Herald added two more.
Brad Schnelle went 6 innings and gave up just 1 run.
The Griffins will host Glenville State on Tuesday afternoon.
