Griffins Earn Series Victory with 7-5 Win Over Slippery Rock

Box Score

The Griffins hosted Slippery Rock in the rubber game of their key Atlantic Region three game set on Sunday afternoon.  The Griffins won the series with a 7-5 victory.  Seton Hill improves to 25-7 overall.

Slippery Rock took a 1-0 lead in the first on three hits.  The Rock added another two runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 3-0.  The Griffins got a run back in the fifth.  Josh Forbes led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly from Brendan Costantino.  SHU cut the lead to 3-2 when Ryan Hayden stole third and scored on an error by the catcher.

Seton Hill tied the score at three with a solo homer from Mike Cima in the sixth.  The Griffins took the lead in the bottom of the eighth.   Jackson Boyd led off with a walk.  After a fielder's choice, Cima doubled to put runners on second and third.  Cody Herald then scored when the Rock pitcher missed a tag on the rundown to give SHU a 4-3 lead.  Brad Comport then singled to make the score 5-3.  A perfectly executed double steal increased the lead to 6-3 and a SRU error gave the Griffins a 7-3 lead.  The Rock scored two runs in the top of the ninth.

Sam Bashium earned the win in relief and Austin Sleek earned the save getting the final out.  Mike Cima and Josh Forbes each had two hits.

The Griffins will travel to Washington, PA on Monday to battle California (PA) in another key Atlantic Region contest.   The single 9 inning contest is set to begin at 4 PM.
