Griffins Split Atlantic Region Doubleheader at Slippery Rock

The Griffins made the short trip up to Slippery Rock on Saturday to battle the Rock in a key Atlantic Region doubleheader.  Slippery Rock was able to take game one by a 6-3 score.  SHU earned the split with an 8-3 victory in game two.  SHU improves to 24-7 overall. 

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game one.  Brendan Costantino led off with a double, stole third and scored on a Nick Sell groundout.  The Rock tied the score at 1 with a run in the bottom of the first.  The Rock added two runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 5-1 lead.  Jackson Boyd cut the lead to 5-3 with a 2 RBI single in the sixth but the Rock got one back for a 6-3 lead in their half of the sixth.  Pat McCarthy had two hits in the loss.
 
Seton Hill exploded for 7 runs on 6 hits in the second inning of game two.  Jackson Boyd led off with a single and scored on a Cody Herald single.  After Brad Comport had a bunt single, Jesse Cooper singled in two to give the Griffins a 4-0 lead.  Another SRU error gave the Griffins their fifth run before Nick Sell drove in the final two runs of the inning to give SHU the 7-0 lead.  Slippery Rock got a run back in the bottom of the third to make it 7-1.  Brendan Costantino was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning.  Pat McCarthy followed with an RBI double to increase the lead to 8-1. 
 
Brett Sullivan earned the victory, going the distance.  He gave up three runs on 7 hits and struck out 5.  Pat McCarthy, Nick Sell and Cody Herald each had two hits for the Griffins. 
 
The Griffins will look to earn the series victory on Sunday when they host the Rock for a single 9 inning contest at 1 PM
