Griffins Clinch WVIAC North Title with Sweep

Seton Hill closed out its regular season with a home doubleheader against Fairmont State.  Seton Hill took game one by a 16-5 score. They completed the sweep with a 9-4 win in game two.  SHU is now 37-13 overall and 26-8 in WVIAC play.  The victory clinches the fourth straight WVIAC Northern Division title for the program.  The Griffins have not lost a WVIAC series in the past 3 seasons as well - a run of 41 consecutive series.    
 
Fairmont State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Griffins responded with 2 in the bottom of the second.  Dan Abbennante doubled in a run and Brendan Costantino gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead with an RBI single.  Fairmont State tied the score at two with a run in the top of the third.  Nick Sell cleared the bases with a double in the fourth to give SHU a 5-2 lead.  Cody Herald stole home in the fifth to give the Griffins a 6-2 lead.  The Griffins extended the lead to 11-2 with a 5 spot in the sixth.  SHU added two more in the seventh.  Fairmont cut the lead to13-4 with 2 in the eighth.  SHU gpt three more in the eighth to make the score 16-4. 
 
Fairmont State again took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two.  SHU tied the score at one on an RBI single by Pat McCarthy in the bottom of the first.  Fairmont State used two unearned runs to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second.  McCarthy singled in another run in the second to cut the lead to 3-2.  Jackson Boyd's sac fly tied the score at three in the third.  McCarthy gave the Griffins a 4-3 lead with an RBI single in the fourth.  Cody Herald extended the lead to 6-3 with a two RBI single.  FSU cut the lead to 7-4 but Mike Cima's sac fly gave the Griffins an 8-4 lead in the sixth.  Josh Forbes made it 9-4 with a single. 
 
Seton Hill will play in the WVIAC Tournament starting on Wednesday.  The Griffins will face number four seed from the south, Charleston at 12:30 PM at Linda K Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV.
