Griffins Split Doubleheader with D&E

Seton Hill hosted Davis & Elkins in a WVIAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.  Seton Hill gave up 5 runs in the seventh inning and dropped an 8-4 decision in game one.  SHU earned the split with a 5-2 win in game two.  SHU improves to 34-12 overall and 24-7 in WVIAC play.    
 
The Griffins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first.  After an out, Pat McCarthy was hit by a pitch.  Nick Sell and Mike Cima each singled to load the bases and Cody Herald scored McCarthy with a sac fly to right.  Brendan Costantino increased the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the second.  Davis & Elkins evened the game at two with 2 runs in the top of the third.
 
D&E took the lead with a run in the top of the fourth.  SHU retook the lead in the fifth.  McCarthy scored on a wild pitch and Herald singled the go ahead run to make the score 4-3.  Davis & Elkins rallied to take the lead in the seventh.  They scored 5 runs on three hits to take a 8-4 lead.  Brendan Costantino, Nick Sell and Mike Cima each have two hits.     
 
Davis & Elkins took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning.  The Griffins took the lead in the third.  Jonathan O 'Neill led off the inning with a double.  He scored when Brendan Costantino doubled.  Jesse Cooper then singled in Costantino to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  SHU had a chance to add on in the fourth with runners on second and third with no outs, but failed to score.  An unearned run cut the Griffins lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth.  Jackson Boyd gave the Griffins a 5-2 lead in the sixth with a two run homer. 
 
Nick Sell, Jeff Simon and Jonathan O'Neill each had two hits in the win.  Austin Sleek earned the victory and Mike Bittel earned the save.            
 
Seton Hill will host Fairmont State this weekend.
