Seton Hill Splits Doubleheader at Shepherd

The Griffin baseball team split its doubleheader at Shepherd on Saturday afternoon.  SHU rallied from being down 2-0 with 4 runs in the top of the seventh for a 4-2 win in game one.  Shepherd took game two by a 3-1 score.  Seton Hill is now 32-11 overall and 22-6 in WVIAC play. 

Game one set up to be a pitchers dual between two left handers and both lefties did not disappoint.  The Griffins Alex Haines and Shepherd's Paul Hvozdovic each put up 0's on the scoreboard.  Shepherd was finally able to break thru in their half of the fifth, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead.  The score stayed 2-0 until the seventh.  Pat McCarthy led off the seventh with a double.  After an out, Mike Cima singled in McCarthy.  After another out, pinch runner Jesse Cooper stole second and moved to third on a passed ball.  Down to their last out, Cody Herald singled to tie the score at two.  After two hit batters, Josh Forbes doubled in two runs to give the Griffins a 4-2 lead.  Two runners reached base in the Shepherd seventh but Alex Haines got the final out on a foul out. 

Alex Haines earned the win, going the distance and giving up 2 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits.  He also struck out 7.  Six different Griffins each had a hit.

Shepherd used 2 two out hits to take a 3-0 lead in the third inning of game two.  SHU got their only run of the game in the fourth.  Nick Sell drew a leadoff walk and scored when Mike Cima singled him in.  Brett Sullivan suffered the loss.  He worked all 6 innnigs, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits.  He struck out 5 in the contest.  Brendan Costantino had two hits for the Griffins.

Seton Hill will look to win the series on Sunday with game three set to begin at 1 PM.
