Griffins Split with WV Wesleyan on the Road

Seton Hill hit the road to Buckhannon, WV to battle the Bobcats of WV Wesleyan in a WVIAC doubleheader.  WV Wesleyan used 4 Griffin errors in the last two innings to erase a 5-0 deficit and walk off with a 6-5 victory in game one.  In game two Seton Hill brought their bats defeating the Bobcats 12-3. The Griffins are now 31-10 overall and 21-5 in WVIAC play.   

Seton Hill jumped on the scoreboard with 4 runs in the top of the first inning.  Brendan Costantino led off with a single.  Pat McCarthy then doubled to put runners on second and third.  Nick Sell walked to load the bases with no one out.  After two strikeouts, Mike Cima delivered the big hit the Griffins were looking for with a grand slam down the left field line.  The Griffins added another run in the second inning.  After an out, Dan Abbenante singled.  Costantino followed with a single to put runners on first and second.  The Griffins then executed a double steal.  McCarthy then made it 5-0 with an RBI groundout. 

WV Wesleyan was able to tie the score at 5 with the help of two Griffin errors in the bottom of the sixth.  Seton Hill had a chance to retake the lead in the seventh but could not score a runner from third base with no one out.  A strikeout and two pop outs ended the threat.  WV Wesleyan again took advantage of Seton Hill errors in the seventh to win the game.  After a leadoff single, the Griffins could not get an out on two bunts with two consecutive errors, which loaded the bases.  On a 0-2 pitch, WV Wesleyan singled to walk off the Griffins by a score of 6-5. 

Seton Hill responded in game two and took a quick 3-0 lead after a half inning.  Brendan Costantino led off with a single and moved to second on a single from Dan Abbenante.  A double steal put runners on second and third and Nick Sell knocked in both runners with a single.  Jackson Boyd's sac fly gave the Griffins the early 3-0 lead.  WV Wesleyan got one run back in the bottom of the second.  

The Griffins got three more in the top of the third.   Mike Cima hit a solo homer with one out.  Boyd followed with a single and scored on a triple from Pat McCarthy.  McCarthy scored on a Cody Herald sac fly which gave the Griffins a 6-1 lead.  Two walks and a two out double for WV Wesleyan cut the Griffins lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth.  SHU got all three runs back in the top of the fifth.  Sell led off with a single and scored when Mike Cima hit his second homer of the day.  McCarthy followed with a solo homer of his own to make the score 9-3. In the sixth inning the homeruns continued as Sell and Boyd both homered extending the Griffin led further 11-3. In the seventh Seton Hill managed to score one more run defeating WV Wesleyan by a final score of 12-3.
 
Seton Hill will travel to Shepherd this weekend for a three game set.
