Griffins Split DH with West Liberty

Seton Hill returned to WVIAC play hosting a doubleheader against West Liberty on Saturday afternoon.  Seton Hill rallied from a 3-0 deficit in game one for a 9-4 win.  West Liberty rallied for a 4-3 victory in game two.  SHU is now 28-9 overall and 19-4 in WVIAC play. 
 
West Liberty took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.  After two walks and two outs, their number nine hitter homered on an 0-2 pitch to give the Hilltoppers a 3-0 lead.  The Griffins cracked the scoreboard in the third.  Josh Forbes broke up the no hitter with a single.  Brad Comport followed with a single and Brandon Jossey walked to load the bases.  Brendan Costantino singled in Forbes and Pat McCarthy closed the gap to 3-2 with a single.  Nick Sell grounded into a double play but Jossey scored to tie the score at three.  The Hilltoppers then gave the Griffins two runs with an error and SHU led 5-3. 
 
SHU increased the lead in the fourth.  Pat McCarthy singled in two to increase the lead to 7-3.  Jackson Boyd doubled in another run to push the lead to 8-3.  West Liberty got a run back in the sixth with a solo homer with two outs.  Nick Sell doubled in McCarthy in the sixth to make the score 9-4.    
 
Alex Haines earned the win, going 6 innings.  He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and struck out 9.  Pat McCarthy was the lone Griffin with two hits.   
 
Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first three innings of game two.  The Griffins had runners at second and third with no outs and the bases loaded with 1 out but failed to score.  In the Griffins fourth, they scored 3 times.  Brad Comport had an RBI groundout.  Dan Abbenante added an RBI single and Brendan Costantino closed out the scoring with an RBI single.  West Liberty answered with 2 runs in the sixth and seventh to secure a 4-3 win. 
 
Brendan Costantino led the squad with2 hits.  Brett Sullivan suffered his first loss of the season. 
 
Seton Hill will host West Liberty tomorrow afternoon in another doubleheader.
