Griffins Defeat IUP, 3-1

The Griffin baseball team took advantage of the sunny and warm weather on Saturday afternoon to host Indiana (PA) in a single nine inning contest before hitting the road for a doubleheader at Concord on Sunday afternoon.   Seton Hill scored three runs in their third inning and held on for a 3-1 victory.  SHU improves to 4-3 on the season.
 
Seton Hill took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the third.  Dan Abbenante led off with an infield single and scored on Pat McCarthy's triple.  McCarthy then scored when Mike Cima singled.  Jackson Boyd then drove in Cima to make the score 3-0.  Neither team was able  to score over the next three innings with the Griffins Brad Schnelle and the Crimson Hawk's Stephen Cooke keeping both teams off the scoreboard.
 
IUP got a run in the top of the seventh with a 1 out triple and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1.  IUP threatened again in the ninth, loading the bases with one out before a flyout and groundout ended the threat.
 
Pat McCarthy and Mike Cima each had two hits for the Griffins.  Brad Schnelle earned his first win of the season, going 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 3.  Bob Carbaugh threw a scoreless eighth and Sam Bashioum earned the save.
 
Seton Hill will travel to Concord for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon
