Seton Hill hosted Wheeling Jesuit in a WVIAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins scored runs in the fifth and sixth to secure a 4-3 victory in game one. SHU completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory in game two. SHU improves to 16-5 overall and 9-2 in WVIAC play.
In the Griffins first,
Brandon Jossey led off with a double.
Pat McCarthy was then hit by a pitch.
Nick Sell then doubled in two to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. Wheeling got a run back in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1. Wheeling took the lead in the fifth. After two walks with two outs, WJU got a clutch two out double to take a 3-2 lead.
Pat McCarthy tied the score at three with a solo homer in the fifth. It was the Griffins first hit since the first inning.
Mike Cima and
Jackson Boyd led off the sixth with singles. Pinch runner
Dan Abbenante then scored on a single from Brendan Constantino to give the Griffins a 4-3 lead.
Austin Sleek earned the win in relief, throwing a scoreless 2 1/3 innings.
In game two, neither team could get a big hit thru the first three innings as the teams combined to strand 10 runners on base. Seton Hill finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth when
Brandon Jossey hit a three run homer to left center. Wheeling used a SHU error to cut the Griffin lead to 3-2 in the fifth. SHU added a run in the sixth to make it 4-2.
Jeff Simon doubled to lead off the inning and pinch runner
Dan Abbenante scored when Jossey reached on an error.
Alex Haines earned his third win of the season, going the distance. He gave up 2 runs (0 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 7.

Mike Cima each had two hits.
Seton Hill will host Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday to close out the three game set.
