Griffins Split Road Doubleheader at Charleston

The Griffin baseball team continued WVIAC play with a road doubleheader against Charleston on Wednesday afternoon.  SHU rallied from being down 4-0 after 1 inning for a 7-6 victory in game one.  Charleston walked off against the Griffins in game two, earning a 3-2 victory.  SHU is now 14-5 on the season and 7-2 in WVIAC play.

Charleston jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the Griffins after one inning in game one.  Mike Cima hit a two run homer in the top of the third that scored Pat McCarthy, who doubled, to cut the lead to 4-2.  Brad Comport hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth that trimmed the UC lead to 4-3.  The Griffins tied the score at 4 when Brandon Jossey hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth.  Nick Sell and Josh Forbes each doubled in the sixth with Forbes' double scoring Sell to give the Griffins a 5-4 lead.  Sell drove in two more in the seventh with a two RBI single.  In the UC seventh, after two outs a dropped third strike and a homer cut the SHU lead to 7-6 but Alex Haines got a strikeout looking to end the game.

Pat McCarthy, Nick Sell and Josh Forbes each had two hits for the Griffins.  Mike Bittel earned the win, going six innings.  Alex Haines earned the save.

Seton Hill took a 1-0 lead in game two in the second.  Josh Forbes singled with one out and moved to third on an error by the UC right fielder.  Forbes then scored on a groundout by Cody Herald.  UC took a 2-1 lead on a two run homer in the third.  The Griffins tied the game in the top of the sixth, thanks to an UC error.  Charleston used three singles to walk off the Griffins in the seventh.

Josh Forbes and Brad Comport each had 2 hits for the Griffins. 

Seton Hill will host Wheeling Jesuit this weekend.
