Griffins Split Doubleheader at Alderson Broaddus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Griffins hit the road to Philippi, WV to battle Alderson Broaddus in a WVIAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon.  SHU used the pitching of Alex Haines and the bat of Mike Cima for a 2-0 victory in game one.  AB battled back and took game two by a 6-2 score.   SHU is now 11-4 overall and 5-1 in WVIAC play.

Game one was a pitcher's dual between the Griffins Alex Haines and AB's Jeff Conley.  Each pitcher gave up just two hits thru four innings.  The Griffins threatened in the fifth but a flyout ended the threat.  AB followed with an opportunity of their own but a botched double steal ended their fifth.

The Griffins finally put a dent in the scoreboard in the sixth.  Brandon Jossey led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Brendan Costantino.  After a strikeout, Mike Cima actually put a dent in the scoreboard with a homer off the scoreboard in left center to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.

Alex Haines earned the win, going the distance, striking out 8 and giving up 5 hits.  Brandon Jossey had two hits for the Griffins.
