The Griffins opened up their home WVIAC schedule with a doubleheader with WV State on Tuesday afternoon. SHU took game 1 by the score of 5-2. The Griffins took game 2 by a 4-2 score. SHU improves to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in WVIAC play.
WV State scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Griffins responded in their half of the third thanks to two walks to open the inning.
Brendan Costantino then singled to score
Brad Comport to cut the lead to 2-1.
Pat McCarthy tied the game with an RBI groundout.
Nick Sell then gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead with a sac fly. SHU made it 4-2 in the fourth with a single by
Cody Herald, a WVSU error and a sac fly from
Chris Miller. The Griffins added on after two outs in the fifth on an RBI single from Miller.
Bob Carbaugh earned the victory, going 4 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits.
Austin Sleek earned the save, pitching 3 scoreless innings.
Jackson Boyd and
Cody Herald each had 2 hits.
Two walks and an RBI groundout from
Cody Herald gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead in second inning of game two.
Brad Comport made it 2-0 with a RBI double.
Ryan Hayden extended the lead to 3-0 with a sac fly. Herald pushed the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single in the third. Griffin starter Sam Bashioum retired 13 straight hitters from the first to the fifth inning. That streak ended and WVSU registered three hits to score two runs to cut the lead to 4-2.
Sam Bashioum earned the win, going 5 innings.
Jordan Fuller earned the save.
Cody Herald had two hits for the Griffins.
Seton Hill will host Clarion on Thursday.
