Griffins Advance to Semifinals of WVIAC Tournament

On Wednesday afternoon the Griffins matched up against Alderson Broaddus College in the quarterfinals of the WVIAC basketball tournament. The Griffins came out on top defeating the Battlers 51-45.
 
In first half action it was a close contest. With 11:01 on the clock the Griffins led by 1 point, 15-14. Seton Hill then kicked it up a notch offensively and scored 10 unanswered points taking a 24-14 advantage at the 8:40 mark. Alderson-Broaddus battled back and made it a one-possession game trailing Seton Hill 26-23 with 4:12 remaining. A set of made free throws from Paige Alviani and Katie Gattuso extended the Griffin lead 30-23. The Battlers managed to make one more bucket in the final seconds sending Seton Hill into the locker-room with a 30-25 advantage.
 
In the second half the Griffins came out strong with 6 straight points from Katie Gattuso to make it a 36-25 game at the 17:44 mark. However, over the next 7 minutes Seton Hill was unable to find the bottom of the net. During that long scoring drought the Battlers closed the gap on the Griffins 36-31 with 10:52 left on the clock. The Battlers continued to work and trailed Seton Hill by 2 points, 45-43 at the 3:40 mark. A jumper and set of foul shots from Tiara Stossel gave the Griffins a 49-43 lead with 1:45 remaining in the game. The Battlers were only able to make one more bucket before sending Kelly Brennan to the line for the Griffins. Brennan sunk both free throws clinching the 51-45 victory for Seton Hill.   
 
Katie Gattuso led the Griffin offense scoring 20 points. Paige Alviani added 10 points and Tiara Stossel and Kelly Brennan both chipped in 9 points a piece. With the victory Seton Hill advances to the semifinals of the WVIAC tournament. The Griffins will play next on Friday at 3:00PM against the winner of the Glenville State vs. Charleston game.
