On a day not fit for baseball, the Griffins opened up the season with a nine inning contest against LeMoyne. With flurries flying in the air, the Griffins battled the Dolphins. Seton Hill earned a 9-5 victory to improve to 1-0 on the season.
LeMoyne took a 1-0 lead in the second after a leadoff double. The Griffins took the lead with three in the bottom of the third.
Jesse Cooper singled with one out.
Brendan Costantino was hit by a pitch and
Brandon Jossey reached on an error. After a strikeout,
Mike Cima doubled down the left field to plate three runs.
SHU was able to load the bases in the fourth with one out but two strikeouts ended the threat. LeMoyne tied the score at three after a two run homer with one out in the fifth. Back to back doubles from
Chris Miller and Cima gave the Griffins a 4-3 lead in the fifth. LeMoyne answered to tie it with one in the sixth. SHU added three in their half of the sixth with the big hit being a two run single from
Cody Herald. Three hit batters in a row led to a Griffin run in the seventh. LeMoyne cut the lead to 8-5 with a run in the eighth. SHU got that run right back in the eighth on a RBI groundout from
Pat McCarthy.
Cody Herald led the Griffin offense with 3 hits and drove in two.
Mike Cima added 2 hits and 4 RBI. Sam Bashioum earned the win in relief, going the final 4 1/3 innings. He gave up two runs on four hits.
Seton Hill will host LeMoyne in a doubleheader on Monday afternoon at 12 PM.
