The Griffin field hockey team scored twice in the first half and added four more in the second half to take a 6-3 PSAC victory over Indiana (PA) at home on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Griffins improve to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play.
The game was scoreless for the first 25 minutes before the Griffins got on the board at the 26:05 mark.
Melayna Currie got the Griffins on the board first. Just over a minute later,
Emily Hutsko made it 2-0 with a goal from
Natasha Nichols. The Griffins took the 2-0 lead into the half.
Dominique Cappello made it 3-0 with a goal early in the second half. Nichols also earned the assist on the Cappello goal. IUP scored twice in under 5 minutes to cut the Griffins lead to 3-2 just over 10 minutes into the second half. Nichols answered those goals with a breakaway goal of her own to push the lead to 4-2.
Ashley Reid assisted on the Nichols goal. IUP got a goal to cut the lead back to 4-3 with 15 minutes to play in the game. The Griffins then put the game away with two goals.
Alisha Bell scored from McDonoigh Scanlon and Scanlon scored from
Lauren Schumacher to close out the scoring.
Autumn Reid recorded 8 saves in net.
Seton Hill will travel to Slippery Rock on Friday at 5 PM.
