The Griffin field hockey team earned its second PSAC victory on Tuesday afternoon. Behind the solid goalkeeping of
Rebecca Portillo, the Griffins came away with a 3-1 victory over Mansfield. With the victory, the Griffins improve to 5-11 overall and 2-7 in PSAC play.
Neither team was able to find the scoreboard in the games first 25 minutes with Mansfield dominating the play and holding an advantage in penalty corners and shots in the early part of the contest. The Griffins finally broke the deadlock at the 26:31 mark when
Dominique Cappello found a streaking
Natasha Nichols who buried the shot to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. SHU carried that lead into the halftime break. The Griffins made it 2-0 almost eight minutes into the second half when
Emily Hutsko knocked in a pass from Nichols. SHU increased the lead to 3-0 less than three minutes later
Alisha Bell deflected in a Nichols pass. Mansfield got on the scoreboard late in the contest to trim the lead to 3-1.
Rebecca Portillo was strong in the net, registering 12 saves for the victory.
Seton Hill will close out the season when they host #1 Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM. Six Griffin seniors will be honored before the game as well.
