The Griffins held a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter but California scored 27 consecutive points to take a 33-7 victory at Offutt Field on Saturday afternoon. Seton Hill falls to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in PSAC play.
California jumped on the Griffins early after returning the opening kickoff 86 yards to the Griffins 14 yard line. Two plays later, the Vulcans led 6-0 after a 15 yard touchdown run. The extra point hit the upright. With 5 minutes to play in the first quarter, the Griffins
Nicholas Boynton forced a Cal fumble and
Jordan Harper recovered it on the Griffins 26 yard line. The Griffins then drove 74 yards in 14 plays, taking up 6 minutes and 2 seconds off the clock, capped by a 1 yard touchdown run by Denzell Jackson on a fourth and goal to tie the score at 6.
Jesser Boulnemour's extra point gave the Griffins a 7-6 lead with 14:11 to play in the first half. That lead did not last long as the Vulcans went 75 yards in 5 plays and took a 13-7 lead with a 19 yard touchdown pass with 12:00 to play in the second half. After the Griffins punted, the Vulcans hit on a 58 yard touchdown bomb to extend the lead to 20-7. The Vulcans extended their lead to 30-7 at the half after a 35 yard field goal and an 11 yard fumble return for touchdown.
Neither team was able to score in the third quarter as the Vulcans continued to lead 30-7 after three quarters. The Vulcans closed out the scoring with a 35 yard field goal with 13:35 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Griffins were held to just 40 yards passing.
Jarvis McClam rushed for 69 yards on 15 carries. Denzell Jackson carried 17 times for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Chase Parker led the defense with 12 tackles (10 solo). He had 2 tackles for loss a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Seton Hill will travel to Clarion next Saturday for a 1 PM kickoff.
