Griffin Comeback Falls Short at Urbana

Box Score After falling behind 21-0 in the first quarter, the Griffins were able to battle back to within three points but came up short in the end, falling by the score of 34-31 on the road at Urbana on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, the Griffins drop to 0-2 on the season. 

Urbana took the opening drive and went 76 yards in 9 plays to take a quick 7-0 lead.  Urbana followed that with two other long drives and led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.  Seton Hill cut the lead to 21-7 following a 68 yard, 7 play drive when Trae Cook scored on a run from 6 yards out.  Urbana extended its lead back to 21 points on a 71 yard touchdown pass with 7:25 left in the second quarter.  SHU responded right back and cut the lead to 28-14 on a 44 yard touchdown run by Derrick DyerJosh Cavalier hit a 29 yard field goal right before the half and the Griffins entered the locker room trailing 28-17.

Urbana scored the lone TD of the third quarter but missed the extra point and the Griffins trailed 34-17 entering the fourth.  Ryam Morris hit Niko Hall-Brown with a 45 yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter which cut the Urbana lead to 34-24 with 10:49 to play.  The Griffin defense then forced a three and out to give SHU the ball back.  Morris hit 9 of 11 passes on the next drive with the final one connecting with DJ Carter for a 9 yard touchdown catch.  Cavalier's extra point cut the lead to 34-31 with 5:06 to play.  Seton Hill was able to force an Urbana punt and got the ball back at their own 15 yard line with 2:21 to play.  The Griffins were unable to move the chains and Urbana took over and ran the clock out to seal the win.

Ryan Morris finished the game 29-45 for 312 yards and 2 TD.  Derrick Dyer finished with 6 carries for 52 yards and 1 TD.  DJ Carter pulled down 10 receptions for 130 yards and 1 TD.  Dorian Evans led the Griffin D with 12 tackles.  Tyler Zimmer followed with 11.  

Seton Hill will open up WVIAC play next Saturday when they host Shepherd for a noon kickoff.
