Box Score The Griffins competed against Slippery Rock University on Saturday in a PSAC field hockey match up. The Griffins were unable to stop Slippery Rocks offense and suffered a 5-1 defeat.
In the first half both teams were evenly matched until halfway through. Allison Shade scored at the 20:39 mark to give Slippery Rock the lead. Three minutes later Shade found the net again assisted by Ally Banks to take a 2-0 advantage over the Griffins. Slippery Rock scored with less than 5 minutes to go to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half things did not get any better for the Griffins. Gabrielle Malishchack added another tally to the board for Slippery rock at the 40:37 mark extending their lead 4-0. Eight minutes later Rebecca Williams drilled one in goal making it a 5-0 contest. The Griffins were able to get on the board at the 63:28 mark with a goal from
Lauren Mariano assisted by
Brittany Davis to end the game with a score of 5-1.
Rebecca Portillo recorded 4 saves in the net and
Autumn Reid recorded 1 save. With the loss the Griffins stand at 4-4 overall and 2-4 in PSAC conference play. The Griffins travel to Indiana (PA) for their next contest on September 25, at 4:00PM.
