Griffins Drop Fourth Straight to Open Season

Box Score The Griffin football team lost its fourth straight to open the season on Saturday afternoon when they fell by a score of 41-17 on the road at WV Wesleyan.  WV Wesleyan outgained the Griffins by a margin of 496-215 amd had 24 first downs to the Griffins 15.  Seton Hill falls to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in WVIAC play.

The first quarter started out great for the Griffins as they blocked a WV Wesleyan field goal attempt on their first drive and after a three and out on their first possession, the Griffin offense marched 70 yards on 15 plays and took an 8-0 lead.  Niko Hall-Brown caught a 23 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Morris and Josh Cavalier raced in for the two point conversion.  Seton Hill forced another WV Wesleyan punt and led 8-0 after the first quarter.  On the Griffins next possession, WV Wesleyan picked up a SHU fumble and took it back for a touchdown to cut the lead to 8-7 with 13:00 to play in the second.  WV Wesleyan was able to score two more touchdowns before halftime and entered the break with a 21-11 lead.  Cavalier connected from 35 yards out right before the half to cut the lead to 10. 

Hall-Brown caught his second touchdown of the contest at the 9:38 mark of the third quarter.  This time a 19 yard catch from Morris which cut the lead to 21-17.  From that point on it was all Wesleyan as they scored a touchdown late in the third and added two field goals and a touchdown in the fourth for the 41-17 victory.

Ryan Morris finished the game 26-46 for 215 yards and 2 TD's.  Again the Griffin running game was non existent as the backs rushed for 12 yards on 11 carries.  Niko Hall-Brown had a game high 10 catches for 98 yards and 2 TDs.  Xavier Perez-Cooley and Tyler Zimmer each had 8 tackles for the Griffins.  Zimmer also added two sacks. 

Seton Hill will look for their first win of the season next Saturday when they host WV State.  It will be homecoming on the hill.
