Late Rally Sends Griffins to 70-65 Victory

Box Score

The Seton Hill men rallied from six points down with under three minutes remaining in the second half for a 70-65 victory on the road at Davis & Elkins on Thursday night.  With the victory, the Griffins improve to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in WVIAC play.

The first ten minutes of the first half were played very tightly with neither team holding more than a 3 point advantage.  With the score tied at 12, Seton Hill went on a quick 6-0 spurt over 1:30 to take an 18-12 lead with 8:30 to play in the first half.  SHU extended their first half to as many as eight points twice on buckets from David Windsor and took a 31-26 lead into the halftime break.

Seton Hill built their lead to 37-30 on a Lenjo Kilo basket with 17:20 to go in the second half.  Over the next 5 minutes D&E would go on a 16-4 run to take a 46-41 lead with 12:44 to go.  D&E continued to hold that lead and led 60-54 with 2:30 to play.  During that stretch, the Griffins went cold from the field as they did not hit a field goal for over a 6 minute span.  Over the next minute it was the Max Kenyi show as he took over the game, scoring 10 straight points for the Griffins, the last two from the free throw line.  SHU led 64-63 with 1:14 to play.  After a defensive stop, Windsor hit two more free throws to push the lead to three.  Two D&E free throws cut the lead back to one.  Nate Perry then grabbed a big offensive rebound and was fouled and calmly hit both free throws giving the Griffins a 68-65 lead with 11 seconds to play.  SHU forced another missed D&E three pointer and Kameron Taylor closed out the contest with two free throws.

Max Kenyi led the Griffins with 23 points.  Lenjo Kilo added 15 and Kameron Taylor added 11 off the bench.  Kilo also pulled down 9 rebounds.

Seton Hill will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Ohio Valley.
