Seton Hill returned to the court following the Thanksgiving break at Indiana (PA)'s Kovalchick Complex. The Griffins were taking part in the IRMC Classic hosted by the Crimson Hawks. SHU opened the classic with a matchup against Washington Adventist on Saturday evening. SHU defeated Division II Independent Washington Adventist by the score of 65-63. The Griffins improve to 1-1 on the season.
Seton Hill got off to a slow start and trailed 8-3 with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. The Griffins then went on a 9-2 run to take a 12-10 lead with the final two buckets being a three pointer from
Oliver McGlade and a jumper from
Max Kenyi. Washington Adventist responded with a run of their own and led 24-16 with just over four minutes to play in the first half. Seton Hill was able to battle back and took after McGlade hit a three with 13 seconds to play in the half, entered the locker room with a 30-26 lead.
Washington Adventist scored the first five points of the second half to take a 31-30 lead. SHU was able to push their lead back up to five points at 41-36 with 14:15 to play in the half. The scoring slowed for the next few minutes and the Griffins held a 49-47 lead with just under 7 minutes remaining in the game.
David Windsor hit a jumper and Kenyi followed with a free throw to push the SHU lead back to three with just over five minutes to play. Adventist tied it with a three but Kenyi got a layin to give SHU a 54-52 lead with 4:38 to play.
Malachi Leonard's bucket extended the lead back to four.
The teams exchanged free throws and SHU still led by three, 59-56 with 2:19 on the clock.
Lenjo Kilo hit a layin to give the Griffins a 61-56 lead with 1:37 to play. Adventist hit two free throws to get the lead back to three. Leonard answered right back with a bucket to push the lead back to five at 63-58 with 1:14 left. Adventist drew a foul and hit both free throws to draw back to within three with under a minute to play. SHU turned the ball over on their next possession giving Adventist a shot to tie with a three pointer. Adventist missed their attempt and Kilo pulled down the rebound. Kenyi was fouled with six seconds left and hit both of his free throws to give SHU a 65-60 lead. Adventist hit a three at the buzzer but it was too late as the Griffins escaped with a win.
Malachi Leonard led the Griffins with 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Max Kenyi followed with 16 on 10 free throws.
Oliver McGlade finished with 13 and
Lenjo Kilo added 11.
Seton Hill will battle home standing Indiana (PA) on Sunday evening.
