Griffins Earn Senior Day Victory

Box Score The women's field hockey team hosted the Lakers of Mercyhurst University on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. The Griffins were pumped up and ready to play from the first whistle capturing a Senior Day 5-2 victory.
 
Seton Hill got on the board first scoring off a penalty stroke. Senior, Michelle Hogan buried the shot making it a 1-0 game at the 20:29 mark. Three minutes later Hogan struck again scoring off a pass from Janelle Hofer increasing the Griffin advantage to 2-0. The Lakers answered back at the 26:24 mark to close the gap on the Griffins at 2-1. At the end of the first half Seton Hill led the Lakers by one.
 
In second half action Seton Hill came out with a bang scoring two minutes into play with a Joanna Pichardo goal assisted by Melayna Currie to make it a 3-1 contest. The Griffins continued their scoring momentum with another goal from Pichardo and one from Lauren Schumacher both assisted by Natasha Nichols to take a 5-1 advantage at the 52:45 mark.  The Lakers put one in the back of the net a couple minutes later changing the scoreboard to 5-2 and stopping the Griffin run. The Lakers ran out of time to make a comeback and the Griffins cruised to a 5-2 win.
 
Autumn Reid recorded 6 saves in the net and Rebecca Portillo earned 1 save in the net for the Griffins. With the win Seton Hill now stands at 6-7 overall and 2-4 in PSAC conference play. The Griffins travel to Mansfield University for their next contest on October 9th, at 4:00PM.
