Seton Hill could not hold a 26-14 third quarter lead and dropped its seventh straight to open the season with a 29-26 loss at home to Concord on Saturday afternoon. SHU held the 26-14 lead with 12:06 to play in the third but Concord scored once in the third and once in the fourth quarter to steal the victory. SHU drops to 0-7 on the season and 0-5 in WVIAC play.
Seton Hill took the lead on a 14 yard strike from Andrew Jackson to
Niko Hall-Brown with 7:07 left in the first quarter.
Josh Cavalier's extra point attempt hit the upright and the Griffins led 6-0. Seton Hill extended the lead to 13-0 on another Jackson TD pass, this one a 45 yard pass to
Mike Allen. Concord cut the lead to 13-7 with a 16 yard TD run with 8:44 left in the second. SHU responded with a 3 play, 34 yard drive after
Tyler Zimmer recovered a CU fumble that was forced by
Phillip Moreland. Jackson connected with
Lance Williams on a 31 yard pass to give SHU a 20-7 lead with 5:01 left in the second. Concord scored on the last play of the half from two yards out on a fourth and goal which cut the lead to 20-14 at the halftime break. SHU made 4 stops from the one but a holding penalty gave Concord the chance they needed for the score.
The Griffins took the opening kick of the second half and went 57 yards in 7 plays to extend the lead to 26-14. Jackson found Allen again and he raced in from 10 yards out. It was Jackson's 4th touchdown pass of the game. Cavalier again missed the extra point. Concord then went 76 yards in 4 plays, ending with an 8 yard TD reception that cut the lead back to 6 with 6:49 to play in the third. Concord took the lead for good with a 10 yard TD catch with 5:20 left in the fourth. The two point conversion was good and Concord led 29-26. SHU went three and out on their next drive and then forced the Mountain Lions to punt the ball back to them with a three and out of their own, giving them the ball at the Concord 44 yard line down by three with 3:42 to play. Jackson again connected with Allen for a 16 yard completion but a holding penalty nullified the play. On 3rd and 15, Jackson hit Hall-Brown for 14 yards setting up a fourth and one at the CU 35.
Tavin Davis was unable to gain a yard on fourth down and the Griffins turned the ball over on downs and Concord was able to run out the clock.
Andrew Jackson finished the day 22-30 for 265 yards and 4 TDs.
Niko Hall-Brown pulled in 8 receptions for 134 yards and a TD.
Xavier Perez-Coley led the defense with 13 tackles.
Seton Hill will travel to Fairmont State next weekend for a 2 PM kickoff.
