Seton Hill opened play in the 2025 NCAA Tournament as they hosted Wilmington in the first round of the tourney on Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg.
Seton Hill used a 5-0 fourth quarter to pull away and advance to the second round with a 15-7 victory over the Wildcats . SHU is now 18-1 overall. Wilmington ends the season at 11-5.
Neither team was able to score over the first seven minutes of the first quarter. Wilminton then scored a pair of goals in less than a minute to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins with 7:26 left in the quarter. Just 16 seconds later
Kaden Granberg cut the lead in half.
Braedan Lockyer scored with 4:15 left in the quarter as the Griffins tied the score at two after one period of play.
SHU opened the second quarter by scoring the first four goals as they used a 6-0 run to take a 6-2 lead.
Nate Herbster scored just over two minutes into the quarter.
Wade Brunelle and
Connor Zostant scored 40 seconds a part to make it 5-2 with 10:08 left.
Carter Green increased the lead to four with a goal at the 7:51 mark. The Wildcats answered with a pair of goals to trim the lead to 6-4 with two minutes to play. Lockyer scored with 1:17 left as the Griffins led 7-4 at the half.
1:23 into the second half, the Wildcats cut the lead back to two. SHU responded with three straight to take a 10-5 lead.
Gavin Erickson opened the run and Brunelle and Lockyer closed it out as SHU led 10-5 with 8:15 left. Wilmington closed the gap to 10-7 at the end of the third quarter.
Herbster scored a man up goal with 11:44 left to push the advantage to 11-7. Back to back goals from Brunelle made it 13-7 with 6:15 to play.
Riley Grudi and Lockyer closed out the scoring for the Griffins.
Lockyer led the offense with 4 goals and 4 assists. Brunelle added 4 goals and an assist. Herbster scored a pair and added a pair of assists.
Will Cody made 12 saves in cage for the win.
The Griffins advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals where they will travel to Manchester, NH for a matchup with St Anselm on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM.
