Seton Hill continued play in the 2025 NCAA Tournament as they traveled to St Anselm in the quarterfinal round of the tourney on Sunday afternoon in Manchester, NH.
The Griffins saw their season end with a 9-8 loss to the Hawks. SHU ends the season with an 18-2 overall record. The loss ends a 16 game winning streak for the Griffins. The eight goals tie a season low for the Griffins.
Both offenses got off to slow starts as the defenses clamped down over the first quarter.
Michael Coleman opened the scoring 5:30 into the contest. St Anselm tied the contest at one with 1:53 left. The Griffins retook the lead with less than a second remaining on a goal from
Wade Brunelle on a pass from
Carter Green.
The Hawks opened the second quarter by scoring the first three goals of the quarter over the first half of the quarter. The Hawks scored three times, three minutes apart as they took a 4-2 lead with 7:23 left.
Braedan Lockyer scored with 3:15 left in the half to cut the lead to 4-3.
Carter Green then tied the game at four with 2:03 left as the teams entered the halftime break tied.
St Anselm led in shots in the first half, 22-20 and shots on goal, 14-11. The Hawks had an 18-13 advantage in ground balls. St Anselm won 8 of the 10 faceoffs in the half.
The Hawks scored the opening two goals of the third quarter as they took a 6-4 lead with 9:33 left in the third. A little over 30 seconds later
Carter Green cut the lead to 6-5.
Riley Grudi tied the game at six with 6:58 left in the quarter as the game went to the fourth quarter tied at six.
St Anselm scored two goals just 44 seconds a part to open the fourth quarter as they took an 8-6 lead with 13:01 left.
Nate Herbster cut the lead to 8-7 with 8:10 left. The Hawks pushed their lead back to two with 5:22 to play. SHU trimmed the lead to 9-8 with 54 seconds to play on a goal from
Nate Herbster. SHU lost the faceoff but forced a turnover to get the ball back and SHU called timeout with 27.4 seconds left. The Griffins got two shots late but missed wide and could not score the game tying goal.
SHU ended with a 45-41 advantage in shots in the contest. The teams each finished with 21 shots on goal. St Anselm led 34-31 in ground balls. The Hawks won 12 of the 21 faceoffs in the contest.
Carter Green led the Griffins with two goals and an assist.
