Seton Hill hosted Walsh University on Saturday afternoon in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship game.
The Griffins jumped out to a 15-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 20-5 victory over the Cavaliers to win the championship. This is the fourth G-MAC men's lacrosse title won by the Griffins and first since 2022. With the victory, the Griffins earn the automatic bid from the G-MAC to the NCAA Tournament.
The first quarter was all Seton Hill and
Braedan Lockyer as the Griffins jumped out to an 7-0 lead in the quarter behind four goals from Lockyer.
Cullen Green and
Riley Grudi opened the scoring a minute apart as the Griffins took a 2-0 lead with 11:21 left. Lockyer then scored a pair in 28 seconds to extend the lead to 4-0.
Nate Herbster scored with 5:04 left before Lockyer scored two more as SHU took a 7-0 lead after one.
Mark Strunk won the opening faceoff and scored just six seconds into the second quarter as SHU extended their lead to 8-0. Three Carter goals, one from Li and two from Green, pushed the Griffins lead to 11-0 at the ten minute mark of the second quarter. Midway through the quarter,
Wade Brunelle put the Griffins up a dozen. Two more from Lockyer in a 30 second span extended the lead to 14-0 with 3:12 left. Walsh got their first goal at the 2:43 mark before Herbster scored with four seconds left in the half to give SHU a 15-1 lead.
Colin Socker and Lockyer scored a minute apart as the Griffins took a 17-1 lead with 9:50 left in the third. Walsh then closed the quarter on a 3-1 run with
Michael Coleman scoring the lone SHU goal as the Griffins led 18-4 after three quarters.
Grudi and
Gavin Erickson scored 29 seconds a part early in the fourth to close out the scoring for the Griffins.
The Griffins finished with 59 shots to 22 for Walsh. Shots on goal were 33-9. SHU won the ground ball battle 39-17.
Lockyer led the offense with seven goals and two assists. Brunelle added a goal and five assists. Green and Herbster each finished with two goals and an assist. Grudo scored a pair. Erickson and Socker each scored a goal and added two assists.
SHU will now wait to see what seed they earn in the eight team NCAA North Region field when the NCAA Tournament bracket is announced on Sunday evening.
